Boz Scaggs
Fade Into Light
(Virgin – 2005)
by Matt Robinson
Long treasured as an import from the Land of the Rising Sun, this latest release from the timeless pipes of Boz Scaggs is a perfect album for when the sun is going down. Combining new renditions of such Scaggs standards as “Lowdown” and “Harbor Lights” with some newer but like-minded numbers like the gently groovin’ “Some Things Happen” and the cleverly and choice covers like the Teddy Pendergrass hit “Love TKO,” Scaggs gathers together such talented friends as sax man Dave Scott and guitar slinger Ray Parker Jr. to produce a smooth and satisfying album that is actually right for almost anytime.
And for those who may miss the signature bass pulls of “Lowdown,” the album flips into a DVD that includes that classic hit, along with “Harbor Lights” and “We’re All Alone” recorded live at The Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. So whether you want to celebrate romance or have a gentle voice commiserate your loss, you can’t do better than Boz!
Boz will perform in Boston August 17 at the Bank of America Pavilion (www.bankofamericapavilion.com).
