Nicole Mitchell Black Unstoppable – DVD Delmark Ray Redmond Nicole Mitchell brings an exciting new approach to flute improvisation. Recorded live at the Velvet Lounge, the material on this DVD is imbued with a retro-funk feel. Harkening back to the park-jazz concerts of the ’70s “Cause And Effect” is an instrumental groove that emphasizes the overall retro feel. “Sun Cycles” is more of a free jazz piece with a lot of improvisational licks. Ugochi Nwaogwugwu is vocalist on three songs, most notably “Love Has No Boundaries”, a great duet with trumpeter David Young.
