Pianist Rachel Z turns in a brilliant straight-ahead performance on Everlasting, making this one of her best recordings to date. Despite the fact that this CD features mostly covers of some of your favorite pop hits by such artists as Sting, George Harrison, Sade, Seal and Phil Collins, Rachel Z adds a jazzy twist and flavors these songs with her inimitable style. Songs that should appeal to a younger audience include, “Kiss From A Rose”, “Tonight Tonight” and “Kiss of Life.”
Each are extremely memorable due to Rachel’s prominent piano melodies that exude her appreciation for such great jazz pianists as McCoy Tyner and Herbie Hancock. Their licks are still relevant in her playing and you can definitely hear that jazz history. However, shes successful in bringing a modern day, refined jazz touch to some of your favorites.
