Opening with \u201cPromenade,\u201d this swinging set gets the audience involved and ready for a medley of Poncho Sanchez\u2019s songs that includes \u201cMi Negra\u201d and \u201cBaila Baila.\u201d Later in the program, Sanchez pays tribute to a couple of his biggest influences \u2013 Clare Fischer on \u201cMorning\u201d and percussionist Mongo Santamaria on “Afro Blue.” Gary Foster performs a great melody line on the alto saxophone and the song is arranged as a cha-cha. \u201cAfro Blue,\u201d which was written by Mongo Santamaria is delivered as a high-energy tribute complete with\u00a0excellent soloing by Sanchez, flute, and the vibrant horn section that introduces and closes this all-time favorite.<\/p>\n
The set ends with a hot salsa titled \u201cSon Son Charari,\u201d and from the sounds emanating from the audience, Poncho Sanchez and his Latin Jazz Band had things really fired up.
