No, really&#8230; it <i>was<\/i> lucky because this is a smokin&#8217; release. I was expecting smooth jazz for some reason, and instead I got a good dose of straight ahead, slightly fusion-esque jazz. Featuring names like sax man <b>Eric Marienthal<\/b>, drummer <b>Dave Weckl<\/b> and local horn man <b>Patrick Lamb<\/b>, Kot (the one-finger bassist) has released a <i>quality<\/i> piece of work. There are seven original tracks here, and the work is well balanced rather than being bass-heavy (take note, Marcus.)  <\/p>\n<p>  Jake has been playing for 30 years, and teaching for 20. He&#8217;s played with the likes of  Dave Weckl (Chick Corea), Eric Marienthal (Chick Corea), Robert Aries (John Scofield), Joel Rosenblatt (Spyro Gyra), Mark Walker (Michael Manring), Mel Brown (Diana Ross), Graham Lear (Santana) and Bruce Carter (Kenny G), so it&#8217;s about time he got around to putting out his debut release. The CD is available through <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jakekot.com\">Jake&#8217;s web site<\/a> but I didn&#8217;t see it on Amazon.com or anywhere else on line.
