{"id":3318,"date":"2014-01-01T22:21:10","date_gmt":"2014-01-01T22:21:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jazzusa.com\/dave-young-trio-tale-of-the-fingers\/"},"modified":"2011-01-01T22:21:10","modified_gmt":"2011-01-01T22:21:10","slug":"dave-young-trio-tale-of-the-fingers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jazzusa.com\/?p=3318","title":{"rendered":"Dave Young Trio &#8211; Tale of the Fingers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><basefont face=\"verdana\" size=\"2\" color=\"Black\"\/><\/p>\n<p>  <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/jazzusa.com\/storypix\/taleofthefingers.jpg\" width=\"120\" height=\"120\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\"\/><font size=\"2\" style=\"font-face:verdana; font-size:10pt\" color=\"Blue\" face=\"Verdana,Helvetica,\">  Tale of the Fingers<\/font><br \/><font size=\"4\" style=\"font-face:verdana; font-size:14pt\" color=\"Blue\" face=\"Verdana, Helvetica\">  Dave Young Trio  <\/font><br \/><font face=\"Verdana\" color=\"004000\" size=\"1\">(Blue Note &#8211; 2000)<br \/> by Sidney Bechet-Mandela  <\/font><\/p>\n<p><font face=\"Verdana\" size=\"2\">    In the 90&#8217;s, this fine Canadian bassist put out an incredible series of  duet albums titled &#8220;Two By Two,&#8221; that featured him with a prestigious number  of pianists including, among others,  Oscar Peterson, Tommy Flanagan, Barry  Harris, Cyrus Chestnut, Ellis Marsalis, Renee Rosnes and the player on this  ten song set, Cedar Walton.   &#8220;Tales of the Fingers,&#8221; is not nearly as  entertaining as those three thematic albums, but it is just as satisfying.  <\/p>\n<p>  Impeccably recorded in Toronto, Walton, Young and drummer Barry Elmes, swing  from the opening note, an original by the pianist, &#8220;Bremond&#8217;s Blues,&#8221; to the  smoldering Young closer, &#8220;Ode To The Southwest,&#8221;    In between, Young also  manages to get off a fine tribute to Paul Chambers with a bowed bass solo on  the title track, written by the late bassist, and on &#8220;Keep It Movin&#8217;,&#8221;  a  Wynton Kelly line that featured Chambers on the original 60&#8217;s recording.
