Tommy LiPuma, Legendary producer and Chairman of Verve Music Group, has selected nine cuts for this all-star lineup compilation. David Sanborn, George Benson, Dr. John, Joe Sample, Michael Brecker and Horace Silver all appear with one tune each from previous releases.
It is the nature of compilations to be hit or miss, and this one is a hit for sure. My three favorites are Diana Krall’s Peel Me a Grape, Al Jarreau’s Something That You Said, and the standout, Regina Carter’s Oh, Lady Be Good. And by the way, it sure is good to hear George Benson sounding gooood. 5 stars
