One For All – Incorrigible

One For All
Incorrigible
Jazz Legacy – 2010
Sounds of Timeless Jazz

It’s hard to imagine that One For All has been together for the past 13 years but it’s not hard to imagine the great music emanating on INCORRIGIBLE, their latest offering for Jazz Legacy Productions. Seven of the eight songs here were written by members of the group which includes Jim Rotondi on trumpet and flugelhorn, Eric Alexander on tenor saxophone, Steve Davis on trombone, David Hazeltine on piano, John Webber on bass and Joe Farnsworth on drums.

The set opens with “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered” the Great American Songbook standard which is played here with imaginative new improvisations and buoyancy. “Voice” is a stellar ballad and tribute to trumpeter  Freddie Hubbard that Rotondi offers from the heart. Its mellowness gives listeners a new vantage point from which to listen and reminisce about Hubbard’s versatility and ability to keep things interesting. There are six more great songs that will intrigue, entertain and keep you aware of the awesome interplay this ensemble exhibits throughout this wonderful program. Check it out.
