Junior Brown – The Austin Experience
Junior Brown
The Austin Experience
(Telarc – 2006)
by Matthew Robinson
When is Austin, there is no place like the Continental Club. This riverside roadhouse has been the birthing place of such legends as Mojo Nixon, Los Lonely Boys, and Austin’s own double-necked double threat Junior Brown. So when Brown comes back home, you want to be there.
And now you can!
Slipping seamlessly from standard licks to slippery slides, Brown rips through two nights of fun-packed sets on this special live disc. And though every note is packed with good times, there is no denying that there is a master technician setting the tones- tones which range from ad-Venture-ous B-52s-y to Tex Mex and Bluesy and from the Country road songs of “Broke Down South of Dallas”, “Party Lights” and his classic “Highway Patrol” to the off-kilter romances “My Wife Thinks You’re Dead” and “Hillbilly Hula Gal.” And whether Brown is adding his mumbly baritone to the mix (in English or Español) or just letting his fingers do the singing, the voice is unmistakable. ©2006 M.
