Marc Copland certainly knows what’s going on…Marvin Gaye gone Be-Bop! Pianist Marc Copland’s trio (bassist Gary Peacock and drummer Bill Stewart) is joined by horn players Michael Brecker, Tim Hagans, and Joe Lovano on this, his latest release. Pianist Copeland’s up-tempo treatment of this Marvin Gaye classic highlights his unique rhythmic daring and subtlety while leaving plenty of room for on-the-spot input from the players. This is evidenced not only by Copeland’s own piano solos, but also by the various improvisational horn runs and bass licks that combine to pruduce a very fluid and melodic recording.
